The governor’s daughter spins in the street
With neon lights caught in her clothes
There's bayonets, there’s cannonballs
Hanging above our heads
The raindrops are still, the sunbeams sustain
And illuminate the citie’s face
I’m being torn apart by tourists
Mice are celebrating all around our feet
Her limbs are lying in ash and gasoline
Lets put ourselves together and then we’ll ditch this scene
Her skin rests in a dead mans clothes
With her flowers and buttons left unsown
The moment starts to break, her words become opaque
A taxi comes to take me away
As I start to leave, the radio states
It's just a minor delay on Fulton street

I’m sorry I’m a stranger
But everyday is getting stranger
The clouds contort, the city screams
Disjointed lovers swim through the streets
Towers of light grow through the floor
Vagrants are changing the colors in their souls
A parade plays a dirge, they call it fanfare
While notes lay and melt in the air

And Maybe Next Year

I heard you got forsaken by the apple tree
I heard you got married
To a well dressed man from Paris
So please put your hands in me
Pour your secrets over me
Don’t pay attention to the wind in the water
Because next July were gonna die and sing
To our mothers
And our fathers
I slept in the warmth
Of the marching band
It was lead by the prophets of dixieland
And if you find yourself in the west
Leave your bags in the dark
We can meet in the park
Where the middle means nothing and the sounds are melting
Into you
Just for you
